Narrative: Manukura was the first pure white kiwi ever hatched in captivity. She was born on May 1, 2011, at the Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre in New Zealand from two North Island Brown Kiwi birds, but came out with white feathers due to a rare genetic condition.
Pūkaha give kiwi chicks the best chance to grow strong and safe before they’re released into the wild. This painting is my tribute to those brave newborn kiwis and the incredible work being done to protect them by so many.
My idea behind this painting is to show the baby Kiwi's inquisitive nature as it steps into nature.
