Narrative: This cutie patootie -  kiwi chick -  is inspired by my time spent at Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre, not far from where I live.

Kiwis love eating worms and berries, so you will find in my painting a velvet worm and Karamū berries.

New Zealand's velvet worm is called  a ‘living fossil’ as they are remarkably unchanged from 500 million years ago. They look a bit like caterpillars and have pairs of stumpy legs along the length of their body. These worms are nocturnal predators that spit a sticky slime to trap their prey. Yummy!

Karamū berries are small, edible orange-to-red fruits produced by native karamū bushes (Coprosma robusta) which are native to New Zealand. They are described as having a subtle or slightly sour taste when fully ripe and are full of Vitamin C.

I hope you love my creation. 💚
